The Coyote Motorsports team and many of our customers made the trip to Kershaw, South Carolina, June 24-26 for round two of the WKA Gold Cup Series national circuit at the technical 0.7-mile Carolina Motorsports Park kart track.
The team’s first of two 2016 Gold Cup events at CMP proved impressive with Coyote racers driving to six national wins on the weekend, including a sweep of LO206 Masters by Rob Smith and a sweep of Sportsman Pro Gas Animal Heavy by Elmer Edmonson.
New York’s Blake Boon continued his recent hot streak with a Saturday win in Sportsman LO206 and Florida’s Sean Meier added another national win to his awesome karting resume with a victory in Sunday’s Senior LO206 Heavy main event.
All Coyote winners were on 2016 Wide Track chassis. In fact, for Rob Smith, his wins came on a brand-new Wide Track that had never been raced prior to the Kershaw Gold Cup event!
“We couldn’t be happier with the performance of the chassis at Kershaw, and congratulations to all our drivers,” Coyote owner Mark Lipari said. “The research and development we’ve put into the Wide Track over the last several years is now paying dividends. The chassis worked very well at Kershaw and responded to every adjustment we made throughout the weekend.”

On a 2017 Wide Track was Coyote Motorsports co-owner Jim Lipari, who won the Pole Award and heat race in Sunday’s Senior Pro Gas Animal Medium contest and finished P2 in the final by a slim 0.172-second margin. Jim also finished 3rd in Saturday’s Pro Gas Medium final.
Boon & Edmonson lead Sportsman competition
While Blake Boon and Elmer Edmonson both won features at Kershaw, they also captured several top-five finishes in the tough Junior Sportsman category.
Boon and Edmonson finished a close 2nd and 3rd in Saturday’s Sportsman Pro Gas Lite feature and Edmonson added a P4 finish in Sportsman LO206, which saw Boon drive to the victory.
On Sunday, Boon and Edmonson again finished P2 and P3 in Sportsman Pro Gas Lite. Edmonson bested Boon in Sunday’s Sportsman 206 contest with Elmer finishing 4th and Blake 5th.
Elmer Edmonson also added a strong 3rd-place result in Friday night’s Sportsman Pro Gas money race.

Blake Boon won five national-level races in the month of June! The Cadet/Sportsman rookie won all four 4-cycle Cadet features at the AKRA Northern Tour at GVKC in Avon, NY, and added a fifth win with his Sportsman LO206 triumph at Kershaw. June was a great month for Blake and the Boon & Sons team!
Moffett & Williamson improve in Junior category
Austin Williamson and Talia Moffett carried the Coyote banner in Junior competition.
Both drivers did very well at CMP with Williamson improving on his Jacksonville Gold Cup results in April. Austin finished P3 and P4 in Saturday’s Junior Pro Gas Animal main events and returned Sunday to net a pair of 4th-place finishes.
The Moffett family traveled to South Carolina from their Illinois home and also improved on their Jacksonville performance. Talia finished P3 in both Junior Pro Gas Lite and Junior LO206 on Saturday while competing against several of the best 4-cycle junior racers in the country. On Sunday, Moffett wasn’t able to match her Saturday results but still finished P5 in both finals.

Meier leads the Coyote charge in Senior
Florida racers Sean Meier, Patrick O’Neal and Matt Tortorell all entered the event’s largest class at CMP – LO206 Senior Heavy.
Meier had the best weekend of the trio with a 2nd-place run in Saturday’s 206 final followed up by a heat win and a big win in Sunday’s main over a couple of the best 4-cycle sprint racers in the country.
Meier rode his Brad’s Karts & Parts-sponsored 2016 Wide Track to the success.
O’Neal ran a strong P4 in Saturday’s 206 Senior final. Pat also finished P3 in the 10-lap heat race and fended off some heavy challenges from national Gold Cup regulars and fast CMP club racers for the top-5 results.
Tortorell rode his No. 96 Coyote to a P7 finish in Saturday’s Senior 206 qualifying round and feature race.

Rob Smith turns heads in Masters
Indiana’s Rob Smith – owner of respected 4-cycle engine shop Kart City Performance – made his return to the WKA Gold Cup Series at CMP and promptly visited the top step of the podium not once, but twice on the weekend!
Smith drove his new 2016 Wide Track to the win in Saturday and Sunday’s LO206 Masters contests.
On Saturday, Tim Stiefel and Brad Farmer each drove their Coyotes to finishes of P3 and P4, respectively.
Sunday’s LO206 Masters final was one of the 2016 season’s highlights for Coyote Motorsports as Smith bested Stiefel and Farmer for a sweep of the podium of Coyote!
Congrats to Rob, Tim and Brad on a fine weekend at the Carolina Nationals!

Next up on the national calendar is Round 3 of the WKA Gold Cup Series, August 5-7 at Indiana’s New Castle Motorsports Park.
In the meantime, Jim Lipari will be testing and competing at the July 9 club race at the popular Mid-State Kart Club in Springfield, Illinois, where there is always a stout field of LO206’s.
