Elmer “Moe” Edmonson Jr., 12, is a third-generation kart racer who began racing in the winter of 2013 with help and guidance from his father, Elmer, and grandfather, "Papa Griz."  Since his start behind the wheel of a Coyote chassis - the same brand his father competed with for a number of years - Elmer and his family enjoy success in kart racing at both the club scene in Central and South Florida and on the national circuit with WKA and AKRA.

Residing in Fort Myers, Fla., Edmonson has been a beneficiary of the recently built Bushnell Motorsports Park, which opened in 2015 about two hours north of the family's home.  The Edmonson’s now call BMP their home track, while also racing at nearby Ocala Gran Prix and making several trips to the 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Fla., each year.  The team fields their multiple #7 Coyote chassis in both the LO206 and Pro Gas Animal divisions, and 2017 will be Elmer’s rookie season in Juniors after several years competing in the Junior Sportsman classification.

Over the last several years, Elmer has honed his skills and racked up hundreds of laps at West Coast Karting in Immokalee, Fla., Ocala and now Bushnell, all of which has prepared him for competition on the national level in the WKA Gold Cup and AKRA American Sprint Cup series.

The 2015 and 2016 seasons included Elmer and his family running the Gold Cup against some of the top young Briggs 4-cycle sprint racers in the country and at tracks around the eastern half of the country.  In addition to Jacksonville, national events have taken the Edmonson’s as far as Indiana’s New Castle Motorsports Park and Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) in South Carolina.

In 2016, Moe won four Gold Cup national feature events and scored his first national championship in the Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy division.

The 2017 season will see Elmer continue racing locally in Florida and following the AKRA Southern Tour racing at CMP in April; Bushnell; Monticello, Fla.; Barnesville, Ga., and Jacksonville.

Here’s a Q and A with Elmer to highlight him as this month's Coyote Featured Driver!

Elmer:  "Winter of 2013."

CoyoteKarts.com:  How did you first get involved in karting?

Elmer:  "The time spent traveling to new tracks with my family and competing at national events."

CoyoteKarts.com: What are your most memorable moments in karting?

Elmer:  "I'm working to win a national title in the series I race, and meeting the goals I set at the beginning of each racing season."
