Coyote drivers score championships in Cup Karts South, lead Cup Karts North standings

SPENCERPORT, N.Y. — Coyote Motorsports was well-represented once again this year in the second season of the Cup Karts South Division, a six-round series including the CKNA Winter Nationals at Jacksonville in January, the Spring Nationals at Charlotte in March, and standalone events this past winter and spring at Florida’s Monticello Karting and most recently NOLA Motorsports Park in Louisiana.

A number of Coyote teams followed the series and many Coyote Zenith racers had outstanding campaigns, led by Georgia’s Owen Lloyd capturing his second consecutive Cup Karts South Junior championship and Florida’s Sean Meier, who dominated the Senior Heavy division to score his first series title.

Lloyd continues to impress in 206 junior competition since switching to the Coyote Zenith kart.

After winning the Junior final at the inaugural Spring Nationals in March 2021, Lloyd opened the 2022 CKNA schedule with another huge win, this time coming at his home track at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Fla., during the inaugural CKNA Winter Nationals January 1-2.

Lloyd bested a stacked field of 34 entrants at Jacksonville to win the Junior final for his second CKNA national win in less than a year. The victory helped catapult him to another championship in the series. He finished P2 in Saturday’s final at Monticello in February, P6 of more than 40 entrants at the Spring Nationals in March, and P1 and P2 at NOLA to solidify his second straight South Division championship in an incredibly consistent season.

Lloyd has also been competing in the North Florida Kart Club series at Jacksonville and has two wins and two P2 finishes in four starts thus far.

Sean Meier goes 4-for-4 in Senior Heavy

Like Lloyd, Meier scored one of the biggest wins of his career at the 2021 Charlotte Spring Nationals in the event’s headline division, Senior Medium. This past March, he’d become the only driver to score a Spring Nationals feature win in consecutive years with a dominating drive to victory in Senior Heavy.

Meier’s Senior Heavy win at Charlotte marked his fourth consecutive triumph in Cup Karts South this year after winning the class at Jacksonville and doubling up at Monticello in February. Meier’s Charlotte win also clinched him the Heavy title and he opted to skip the NOLA event in May.

While it was his first championship in Cup Karts South, the accomplishment adds to a long list of club, regional and national championships for Meier at kart tracks and series around the country.

Inscoe and Jarsocrak score wins, top-3 points results

James Inscoe and Brandon Jarsocrak nearly joined Lloyd and Meier as Coyote champions in the South Division.

Inscoe, a former Maxxis Sprint Series champion with a number of 206 wins and podiums on his resume in recent years, fell just short of a championship in this year’s Cup Karts South series. He’d end up second in both the Masters and Legends divisions, scoring a feature win and multiple podiums in each class along the way.

Inscoe’s best run in Legends came with a Sunday triumph at Monticello, and in Masters he won on day one at NOLA.

Most recently, Inscoe drove to a pair of pole awards and feature wins at Charlotte in the WKA Gold Cup Series’ return June 24-26. Inscoe continues to show he’s one of the best in the business in 206 Masters and Legends competition.

Brandon Jarsocrak is no stranger to national and regional championships and he nearly won a couple more in Cup Karts South this year.

Riding a No. 138 Precision Performance Karting / Coyote Zenith, Jarsocrak joined Lloyd and Meier in the win column at the Jacksonville Winter Nationals, scoring the Senior Medium final in impressive fashion over a 25-kart field. He’d back it up with another Medium win Saturday at Monticello and added a pair of P3 results in finals at NOLA. He wasn’t able to run Charlotte due to a conflict with USPKS racing on the same weekend, but his campaign was still good enough for P3 in the final Medium standings.

In Senior Light, Jarsocrak ran second at Jacksonville and ended the series with a P2 and P3 at NOLA. He’d end up P4 in the final points just ahead of PPK / Coyote teammate Austin Hill, a veteran speedway dirt racer new to sprint karting and already in possession of some impressive finishes.

Hill, who ended up fifth in final Light points, was consistent all year in the division highlighted by an impressive pair of top-10 final finishes in the Spring Nationals — a P7 result in Senior Light and P10 in Senior Medium of 46 entrants of the best 206 racers in the country in each class. Hill added top-five finishes at both Monticello and NOLA to compete his campaign. We’ll continue to look for more success from Hill on the Coyote Zenith at upcoming events.

Other drivers fielding Coyotes in the Cup Karts South series included Ronnie Klys and Mason Donahue in Junior, Curtis Gingerich in Masters, Chris Carroll in Senior Medium, Elijah Figueroa in Junior and his brother Josiah Figueroa in Senior Light.

Klys finished P6 in Junior points and had some terrific runs along the way. He finished top five in both finals at Monticello (P4 and P5) and drove to a solid P8 result of 46 starters at Charlotte in March.

Most recently, Klys was back in action at Charlotte at the WKA Gold Cup, and he recorded a pair of feature wins Sunday afternoon in the two junior finals. The junior racer is in the midst of a strong season in his first full year on a Coyote Zenith, and more wins are surely on the horizon for the Florida racer.

Donahue ran Jacksonville and Monticello before taking the rest of the series off. A best finish of sixth of 17 starters Sunday at Monticello helped give the Florida racer a 12th in the final Junior standings. More recently Donahue has been competing in NFKC at Jacksonville.

Like Donahue, Gingerich entered Jacksonville and Monticello on his No. 527 Zenith. Racing in the Masters class, Gingerich’s best finish came on day two at Monticello, which produced a P8 result of 18 starters. The Florida racer finished 11th in the final Masters standings.

Carroll didn’t chase the entire South Division this season but did have some good runs. At Monticello, Carroll finished P5 in Senior Medium on day two, and he was near the top of the speed charts in Senior Light and Medium at the Spring Nationals but ran into bad luck in both divisions, putting him in a hole and down in the final results.

Carroll finished an impressive P2 to Meier in Senior Heavy at NFKC in April, and he’s has taken a few recent events off due to work commitments with his Carroll Contracting company.

Josiah Figueroa attended Monticello and came away with a couple top-10 finishes in Senior Light. Josiah’s younger brother Elijah ran in Junior at Monticello and finished each day’s final.

Coyotes winning in Cup Karts North

The Cup Karts North Division is halfway through its 2022 series with season opening events at Ohio’s G&J Kartway in April and Concept Haulers in Norway, Ill., in early June.

The Legends division has a pair of Coyote racers at the top of the standings after four rounds of racing. New York veteran Tim Stiefel has the points lead with three podium finishes in four starts, and multi-time championship driver Ryan Cassity is second to Stiefel with three final wins in a row after not running the class day one at G&J.

Longtime Coyote racer Scott Kleman of Michigan is having a good season in Senior Light. After tough luck at G&J, Kleman rebounded nicely at Concept Haulers with a P5 result in Saturday’s final and P6 on Sunday. Kleman is currently sixth in the Light point standings heading to rounds five and six.

Maryland racers Chris Cirillo and John Price traveled west to the North opener at G&J to compete in the Masters division. Both drivers left with top-10 finishes in Masters finals with Cirillo taking P8 Saturday and Price having the better day Sunday with a P7 result of over 15 starters.

Maryland’s Hudson Brown and New York’s Joey Cline entered their Coyote Zeniths in Junior at G&J. Brown had the better weekend of the two with final finishes of P13 Saturday and P11 Sunday of 30 entrants. Cline had a best finish of P19 in Saturday’s final and dropped out early in Sunday’s final after contact on the start.

Ronnie Cunagin ran day one at G&J in Senior Light and finished a respectable P11 of 18 starters in the Senior Light final.

New York racer Alex Masci entered the Sportsman division at G&J and recorded a best finish of P24 in Sunday’s final. Masci has been racing locally at Genesee Valley Kart Club in Avon, N.Y., and he’s won twice so far in the Sportsman 206 division.

Kyle Lohmar entered his No. 726 Coyote in Senior Heavy day one at Concept Haulers and drove to a solid P6 result of 15 starters in the final.

The next Cup Karts North event is rounds five and six July 15-17 at USAir Motorsports in Shawano, Wis.

In our next race report we’re highlighting racers who have been competing on their Coyotes at club series around the country including GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, N.C., Sandy Hook and Nicholson speedways in Maryland, NFKC at 103rd Street / Jacksonville, Badger Kart Club in Wisconsin, Mid-State Kart Club in Springfield, Ill., GVKC in New York and Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Ga.
