Spencerport, N.Y. – Coyote Motorsports was honored at the Jan. 15 World Karting Association Russell Karting Gold Cup Series Awards Ceremony for an accomplishment the company hadn’t earned in over five years.

The prestigious WKA Manufacturers Championship trophy

The award came in the form of the prestigious WKA Manufacturers Championship trophy, a piece of hardware that the Spencerport, N.Y., Coyote shop lobby boasts plenty of, but hasn’t seen a new one since the 2004 season.

Coyote drivers won 25 Gold Cup features on the 4-cycle sprint national tour in 2010 to claim the laurel, which easily stands as the most important honor for any 4-cycle-style sprint chassis manufacturer in American karting.

“It feels great to win the Manufacturers Championship,” said Coyote owner Jim Lipari, who accounted for one feature win. “Our drivers made it happen. There are a number of talented racers who drive Coyote karts, and they’re a big part of how we won the championship. We’ve worked very hard over the last few years to get Coyote back to the top of the Gold Cup Series, and I’m really happy we were able to accomplish the chassis title.”

As noted, Coyote has won several Manufacturers Championships over the years between the Gold Cup tour and WKA’s Road Racing Series.  But 2010 marked the first time the company earned the trophy under the leadership of the 26-year-old Lipari, who gained ownership of the company from Ed Wispelaere in May 2007.

“When we took over Coyote this Gold Cup championship, along with restructuring the company, were our main goals,” Lipari added. “As a company, the Gold Cup Series has been where we’ve been strong for a number of years, but competition caught up and we weren’t on top anymore.  We’re extremely proud to have won this title with our newly designed go-karts and the racers who drive them. Our focus now is to work hard in support of the talented drivers on Coyote karts, and to continue improving the performance of our karts through driver feedback and testing.”

2010 year in review

Coyote led the pack in 2010 World Karting Association’s Gold Cup competition

Coyote’s season got off on the right track at the Gold Cup opener in March at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, S.C., where Jake Lutz, Chris Harding, Brett Farmer and Scott Kleman wheeled XP mounts to feature victories.  Farmer and Harding each won twice.

Six more feature wins came Fourth of July weekend at the BeaveRun Motorsports Complex in western Pennsylvania. Farmer again wheeled his XP to a pair of triumphs, as did Kaytlyn Fauci. Tim Stiefel and Justin Cassity added their names to the list with each driver picking up a win at the BeaveRun road course.

Six was again the number at the Coyote Motorsports Nationals at Indiana’s New Castle Motorsports Park in August, where Farmer and Fauci both drove to two more wins while Lutz and Stiefel picked up their second Gold Cup wins of the year.

The Coyote team saved its best weekend for last with an unprecedented seven feature wins at the Gold Cup season closer in October at the historic G&J Kartway in Camden, Ohio. On a cold and wet weekend in the Buckeye State, Fauci again captured two wins and was joined as a double winner by her brother, Mike, who won two of the four Briggs Jr contests. Stiefel, Farmer and Lipari each won once.

A noteworthy feat came with a popular Scott Kleman win in the Money Race at Camden.  Kleman’s win in the 30-lapper marked the first time a Coyote chassis crossed the stripe first in a Money Race since WKA added popular event to Gold Cup at the 2009 season opener.

Looking back…
Since 1997, Coyote has now won 10 WKA Manufacturers Championships.  The company won eight in a row in Gold Cup from ’97 till 2004 and now it’s ninth on the circuit this past season.

Coyote also boasts a Manufacturers Championship in Road Racing, which came in 2002. In 2010 Coyote mounts won 17 races on the Road Racing tour to place fifth in the overall Manufacturers standings.

About Coyote Motorsports
Coyote Motorsports has restructured the way it conducts business. Coyote is no longer a production go-kart company, but now a custom kart manufacturer with an interest in defined details.

Coyote is proud to do nearly everything at its Spencerport, N.Y., shop, including bending tubing with a new, computer-operated Pines 1000 tubing bender, TIG and MIG welding and painting with a new, state-of-the-art Nordson powder-coating system.

The restructuring has led Coyote to become a full-service machine shop capable of in-house manufacturing nearly all of the components on the company’s popular line of karts.
