ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Coyote Motorsports continues work to develop its always-improving line of XP chassis and the latest test came a couple weeks ago at the World Karting Association RLV Gold Cup Series Michigan Kart Supply Nationals at JET Karting at Michiana in South Bend, Indiana.
Coyote drivers raced to eight wins in Indiana with Nick Fauci (3), Scott Kleman (2), Ryan Bavineau, Tim Stiefel and Cal Stewart all racing their Coyotes to feature victories.
The eight wins at South Bend coupled with seven at the Jacksonville Gold Cup opener has Coyote three wins ahead in the battle for the prestigious WKA Gold Cup Manufacturer Championship, an award that Coyote last won in 2010.
Coyote owner Jim Lipari took some time this week to discuss the state of Coyote’s business and what’s been going on at the team’s Spencerport, New York shop.
“Chassis sales doing very well,” Lipari began. “Everyone on a new kart has been thrilled and gaining good speed. That means our team in the shop is doing a good job in all facets of the chassis building and development. Our karts are lighter and faster than ever, and we’re busy developing our new CIK-style frame. Soon, we’re also going to have our retrofit kit available to allow customers to mount CIK bodywork on their Coyotes. There has been high demand for the retrofit kit from our customers so we’ve made it a priority.”
Lipari also spoke about longtime Coyote racer Steven Kilsdonk’s success on his Coyote Sprint Road Race (SRR) chassis this past weekend at Mid-Ohio.

“We went to Mid-Ohio last Friday to support our customers at the WKA Road Race Nationals. I’d like to recognize Steven Kilsdonk, who had a great weekend on his Coyote. He ran (Limited) Modified for the first time and with no practice he was leading the race until he had engine issues. He finished a very close second in the stock Animal Lite and Medium classes. He ran great and we’d like to congratulate him and all our customers for a successful weekend at Mid-Ohio,” Lipari said.
While Kilsdonk was the top Coyote shoe with the Road Racing at Mid-Ohio, a number of Coyote drivers found success on the sprint side at the last Gold Cup in South Bend.
Nick Fauci had an unbelievable weekend at South Bend as he continues to gain confidence and skill behind the wheel. Fauci won three of the four classes he entered, including a big win in Sportsman Pro Gas Animal 1, which was the largest class of the weekend.
Joshua Stark had some really good speed and he’s really coming to life. Stark recorded finishes of fourth, sixth and a pair of seventh-place results in the Sportsman Pro Gas main events.
Cameron Clifford one of the fastest all weekend in his classes. Clifford’s best finish came in Sportsman 2 Lite, which saw him finish a competitive second place.
Trevor Vargo and Tyler Woods had some good runs. Vargo’s best finish was a fourth in Sportsman 1 Lite while Woods, who was racing fairly close to his Michigan home, finished second in Restricted Junior and Junior Pro Gas 2.
Sarah Luoma rode her white No. 5 Coyote to a pair of runner-up finishes. Luoma was second in Junior Lite and Junior Heavy. She also netted a third-place result in Junior Medium.
Coyote racers really shined in the Senior divisions.
Scott Kleman picked up the wins in Animal Lite and Animal Medium. Kleman now holds the point lead in both divisions.
The Stiefel family ran great all weekend. Tim was second in Animal Heavy and won Animal Masters. Josh Stiefel had an awesome weekend. He won a Pole Award and recorded some great finishes in main events. Josh finished second and third in the Senior Pro Gas Animal features, while in the alcohol classes he finishes fourth in Animal Heavy, fourth in Amateur and fifth in Animal Medium.
Ryan Bavineau had an awesome weekend in his return to the Gold Cup after skipping Jacksonville. Bavineau made the trip to Indiana from New York and won the alcohol Money Race and Amateur Medium.
Two-cycle TaG racer Cal Stewart was a surprise entrant at South Bend. Stewart raced a Michigan Kart Supply-prepared Coyote and promptly put it in Victory Lane. Stewart won Senior Pro Gas Animal 1 and was also the top finishing Pro Gas racer in Friday’s Animal Heavy Money Race.
Patrick O’Neal won both Clone classes as he and Brad Farmer hauled their Coyotes all the way from Florida.
Cole Hicks ran his first Gold Cup race. Hicks netted a solid eighth-place finish in Sportsman Pro Gas Animal 2.
Congratulations and “thank you” to all Coyote racers and customers who have been competing in 2013. We’re looking forward to the remainder of the season.
The next national event for Coyote is round three of the Gold Cup Series July 5-7 at G&J Kartway in Camden, Ohio. The Gold Cup will continue in August at Pittsburgh International Race Complex and close the first weekend of October at Rockingham Speedway in North Carolina.
Several Coyote racers will be in action at the WKA Road Racing nationals this summer at VIRginia International Raceway and Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia, while local programs and series throughout the country will see Coyote racers competing, as well.
